EVILE Performs 'In Memoriam' In Memory Of WOODS OF YPRES Frontman (Video)
February 14, 2012British thrashers EVILE played their heart-wrenching song "In Memoriam" live for the first time ever on Saturday, February 11 at the HMV Ritz in Manchester, U.K. in memory of WOODS OF YPRES frontman David Gold, who tragically passed away on December 21. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.
Prior to the concert, EVILE lead guitarist Ol Drake stated about his band's decision to play the song, "We were all deeply saddened to hear the news of WOODS OF YPRES' mastermind David Gold passing away. Their obvious cancellation of the Manchester show left a big hole in the lineup I was so looking forward to seeing and being a part of. We've been thinking of airing 'In Memoriam' live for a while, so [we wanted] to not only play the song for our own reasons, but to also play it at the Manchester show in memory of David."
Gold was killed on December 21 in a car accident near Barrie, Ontario, Canada.
EVILE's third full-length album, "Five Serpent's Teeth", sold around 680 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 35 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
EVILE's previous CD, "Infected Nations", opened with around 460 units to debut at No. 132 on the Heatseekers chart.
"Five Serpent's Teeth" was once again recorded with producer Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, DIMMU BORGIR) at Parlour Studios in Kettering, U.K. and was released in Europe on September 26 via Earache Records.
